So you’ve decided to do your part to keep earth alive and you are now thinking about living green. Well, good for you, we need more people to jump on that line of thought. Now the only thing is where do you start. This world is going to need a lot help if we want to keep life on it from dying off.
So where do you start your new living green process? You start with you and your surroundings. For instance, do you recycle? There are place that you can take recyclable items like aluminum cans, plastics, cardboard, metals and other stuff that will recycle these items and some cases even pay you for them. Some areas even a recyclables pick-up system where recyclables are picked up form your home once a week.
Another good way to get started living green is by saving energy in your home. I just found out recently that even though a plug in item maybe turned off, as long as it is plugged in it is using energy and costing you money. You can choose to unplug the items or you can use a smart power strip. Another why to save energy and money in the long is by using the new energy efficient compact florescent bulbs. These bulbs last much longer than the standard incandescent bulbs and use less energy. The compact florescent bulbs cost more than the incandescent bulbs, but as I said you save money in the long run because you will buy them less often and you will save money on energy.
Reduce the amount of things that you use once and throw away. Instead of using disposable storage bags and wraps to store food and other stuff with, use plastic containers. Use the backs of paper that you’ve made a printing or writing mistake on to keep notes on or some other non-essential purpose. You even reuse grocery store bags for storing things like screws, nails, pencils, pens and brushes, whatever you think they will hold. I’ve used them as packing material and have in some case reused them grocery stores like “Save-A-Lot” where you have to buy the bags and put the groceries in them yourself.
A few more things to help you along you’re way to living green are consider carpooling to work, meetings and events. Whenever there’s a group of you going to one place at the same time take one or two vehicles instead of everyone going separately. Take public transportation when you can. Cover your hot water heater to save on energy.
The things I have told you about will not only help you to start living green, but they are pretty easy to do and most of them will help you to keep more money in your pocket.
